Amelia Powers Gardner, Candidate for Utah County Commissioner

Utah County GOP Amelia Powers Gardner currently holds a position as the Utah County Clerk Auditor and is running for a vacant commission seat in Utah County. If she succeeds and is elected, she would be the first woman to serve on the commission.
Q: What does it mean to you personally that you would possibly be the first woman to serve on the commission if elected?
Amelia: It’s a huge honor to potentially be the first woman on the commission but it’s sad that we have so many amazing woman here in Utah County and none of them have been commissioners. These woman bring so many fantastic points of view and need to be represented.
Q: What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?
Amelia: My favorite way to spend a day off is to be at home with my kids. If we can watch a Harry Potter marathon or cook a meal that’s my perfect day.
Q: What type of music are you into?
Amelia: Growing up I listened to country a lot but I like any genre that I can dance to. In fact, one of my favorite things to do with my kids is dance and listen to music.
Q: What was the best vacation you ever took and why?
Amelia: We do family vacations off the grid in Moab and go out camping and off roading in the middle of nowhere. Also spending time on the beach with just my husband.
Q: Where’s the next place on your travel bucket list and why?
Amelia: Oh, lots of places! I love to travel. I’ll probably travel a lot in retirement and want to see old historic sites and cathedrals in Europe.
Q: What are your hobbies, and how did you get into them?
Amelia: Being a mom is my hobby. I love being a mom and I’m very busy so I cherish the time I spend with my kids. I also go milk goats regularly on a friend’s farm. My family and I drink the milk that I get from the goats.
Q: What was your favorite age growing up?
Amelia: I’ve never been asked this question! I would have to stay my college years around 19 and 20. I really enjoyed being in college.
Q: Was the last thing you read?
Amelia: A book called “The Odds Principal” It’s a business development book and they have concept where you embrace accountability and choose not to be a victim and how it applies to your work environment.
Q: Are you into podcasts?
Amelia: One of my favorites is the Art of Happiness by Arthur Brooks and The Cato Institute. The Art of Happiness talks about the study of happiness and how to approach and live a more fulfilled life. The Cato Institute has short 10-15 minute episodes that brings you up to date on a current issue or event.
Q: If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Amelia: Breakfast food, all kinds.
Q: What are the necessities for the perfect burger?
Amelia: Bacon for sure and lettuce and cheese.
Q: What’s your go-to guilty pleasure?
Amelia: Dr. Pepper.
Q: What's one thing that can instantly make your day better?
Amelia: Just seeing the smiles of my kids can make my day better.
Q: Do you have any pet peeves?
Amelia: I really don’t like when people feel like it is their duty to harass another person. I live by the motto of “you do you.”
Q: What is a major goal you are currently working towards?
Amelia: I really want to move into a new house so each one of my teenage boys can have their own bedroom.
